Who would believe after all this time that Patrice Galas has not gotten the recognition he deserves?
His art in voicing, his phrasing, his pure elocution, his rhythm, his swing, his attentiveness to his partners, his cutting-edge style place him without doubt among France’s top pianists.
Of course, Patrice’s discreet nature may have kept him from the limelight,  buthis incredible talent has withstood the test of time. His jazz is intelligent, subtle, and full of swing.
Patrice has been part of the jazz scene since his collaboration with Johnny Griffin in the 70’s.
Alongside Kenny Clark, he accompanied all the jazz world greats: Dizzy Gillespie, Stan Getz, Dexter Gordon, etc.....establishing himself as one of France’s top soloists and accompanists.
 
Patrice has never compromised his principles and has always been completely committed to his music. He has consecrated much of his time to teaching. He was one of the first professors at Paris’ prestigious Musical Information Center (CIM). This teaching experienceled him and the pianist Pierre Cammas  to create a ten-book series in music education. This series of methods called “The Modern Music” cover a century of music from blues to modern jazz. No less a musician than Martial Solal  himself  has called this method an “encyclopedia of modern music”.   It’s has been successful around the world ever since.  (French and english version)

Along with Eddy Louis, Patrice Galas is one of the few musicians in France to have dedicated himself to the Hammond B3 Organ. He recorded several organ albums and the jazz world is waiting breathlessly for them to be rereleased. If some jazz fans wish that Patrice Galas would spend more time on the B3, the musician himself is firm in his committment to the piano; an instrument he respects and uses with a noble mind and a generous spirit.
Patrice was also a collaborator in the Dictionnary of Jazz - Ed. Robert Laffont.
